Project on Email Automation

 

This project introduces students to the practical implementation of email automation, a key component of retention and engagement in digital marketing. Students will learn how to build automated workflows that deliver the right message to the right audience at the right time—without manual intervention.



Project Objective

To design, build, and activate an automated email sequence using a CRM or email marketing platform such as Mailchimp, ActiveCampaign, HubSpot, or Zoho. The goal is to simulate a real-world customer journey by mapping user behavior to automated responses that improve engagement and drive conversions.



Project Scope

Students can choose from one of the following real-world scenarios:

 

  • Welcome Series: A 3-email series triggered when a user signs up.
  • Cart Abandonment Flow: Reminder emails for users who leave items in the cart.
  • Lead Nurturing Drip: Educational emails sent to new leads over a week.
  • Re-engagement Campaign: Messages targeted at inactive subscribers.

 

Define the Workflow

  • Identify trigger points (e.g., form submission, product view, cart abandon).
  • Create a flowchart of email actions, delays, and conditions.
  • Decide on frequency, content tone, and end-goals for each email.

 

Create and Upload Email Content

  • Write subject lines, body content, and calls-to-action for each step.
  • Personalize messages with user details like name or last interaction.
  • Use branded templates or custom layouts.

 

Build and Test the Automation

  • Set up the workflow inside the chosen platform.
  • Add tags, filters, and behavior-based triggers.
  • Test with dummy accounts to ensure proper sequence and delivery.

 

Launch and Monitor

  • Go live with the campaign.
  • Monitor performance in real time—open rates, CTRs, and progression through the flow.
  • Collect insights for discussion and improvement.


Deliverables

  • Workflow diagram (visual map of automation)
  • Email copies and designs used
  • Screenshots or screen recordings of the platform setup
  • A short report summarizing learnings and performance metrics
